Hackers are targeting Android users in large numbers due to the increase of ransomware attacks and crypto-mining. Cybercriminals have stolen millions dollars, compromised identities, and offered computing power for free in the last few years. Luckily, an antivirus application for Android can safeguard your devices from a variety of threats. Look for an application that is easy to set up, easy to use and offers extra features like system optimization tools including anti-theft security, parental controls.
Avast Mobile Security is a known name in the world of security on the internet. Its Android version has a full suite of protection with a free version and affordable subscription plans that offer complete protection for your mobile device/s, PC and laptop/tablet/computer. Its malware detection is top-notch with a minimum impact on performance. It also comes with call blocker, VPN, junk cleaner, photo vault, WiFi network security RAM boost, anti-theft, web security and more.
Kaspersky Mobile Antivirus is another excellent choice for complete security at a low cost. Its malware detection works well with a minimal drain on battery. It also comes with a call blocking feature, Wear OS support, and other additional features. The only downside is that it’s not as user-friendly as many of its competitors and it doesn’t provide a money-back assurance.
AhnLab which is from South Korea, is another great choice. It scored near-perfect in my hands-on and lab tests but has a less intuitive interface. It’s not as active in social platforms or community forums as other apps listed on this list. However, it has great detection rates for Android malware according AV-Test and AV-Comparatives (but it hasn’t yet been evaluated by either lab since 2015).
